Regional Gap Analysis Study on Homelessness, Addiction and Food Insecurity

Between 2021-2022, From the Ground Up partnered with Phoenix Rescue Mission to conduct a gap analysis study on the unmet needs and gaps in services surrounding homelessness, addiction and food insecurity. In the first study of its kind in the nation, we connected with over 1,000 directly impacted people, as well as community members, direct service providers, elected officals, first responders, and faith partners for their perspectives and experience with these community issues.

Below are several ways to access the data from the study:

Unsheltered Perspectives

This report summarizes the analysis of 100 interviews conducted from November 2018 through March 2019 with people experiencing unsheltered homelessness in the Central Phoenix area. This report is intended as a resource for professionals and organizations working in homeless services, local policy makers and the public at large.

This report sees unsheltered people not as problems to be solved, but as persons with valuable points of view.

Data from this study has been presented at several statewide and national conferences:

  • National Alliance to End Homelessness- National Conference for Single Adults, February 2020

  • Arizona Housing Coaliation- Annual Statewide Conference, October 2019

  • ASU Center for Applied Behavioral Health Policy- 20th Annual Summer Institute, July 2019
